The “Why” Behind Overture Therapy

Maya Kruger, MA, LCAT, RDT, PMH-C, CTT3 is a psychotherapist and trauma specialist who specializes in women’s mental health, focusing especially on the complex journey of motherhood. She is also a mother who has treaded the choppy waters of postpartum and early motherhood.

She created Overture Therapy to help women find their way back to themselves in an authentic, connected, and effective setting.

The name Overture comes from the musical world: it is the opening movement, the potent moment before something powerful unfolds, not dissimilar to the moment of birth.

For the sensitive mom, we believe motherhood is that portal. It is the moment in your life that demands you confront everything that was waiting underneath: the generational patterns, the old wounds, and the parts you silenced long ago.

In therapy, this is your Overture. It is when you start tuning into yourself again, not to fix what is broken, but to courageously reconnect with the true self waiting on the other side of the panic. Recovery begins with looking directly at what brought you here.

“Why” Hero’s Journey?

The Hero's Journey, Joseph Campbell's timeless pattern, is a powerful metaphor for the therapeutic path.

For the mom who feels the constant, low hum of anxiety—the one who carries the guilt that she is never enough, and the hidden fear that her past trauma is somehow her fault—this journey is a vital one.

Just as the hero leaves comfort to face transformation, therapy asks you to step away from the constant effort of holding it all together. The challenges you face are the old family patterns, the fear of "getting it wrong," and the trauma memories that disrupt your peace. You confront these struggles, not to fix yourself, but to deeply understand the lineage of your pain.

Guided by a grounded, compassionate clinician, you don't just gain insight; you reclaim your wholeness. This process is about recognizing the immense, quiet strength it takes to break the cycles and become the healing force in your own story.

Whether you are navigating generational trauma, maternal mental health, the constant fear of not measuring up, or the ache of identity shift, we are here to support you with care, creativity, and deep respect for your pace.

Depth Psychology: We look beyond surface symptoms to explore how inherited family patterns and early experiences influence your current anxiety and parenting style.

IFS (Internal Family Systems): Helps you understand the internal conflict (for example, the part that panics versus the part that tries to control everything) with compassion, not judgment. This is key for managing overwhelming maternal guilt.

Psychodynamic Therapy: The past has a way of echoing into the present. We explore how early relationships shaped your blueprint for connection. By bringing these unconscious patterns into the light you gain the freedom to choose a different way forward.

Psychodrama & Creative Arts Therapy: Uses action, metaphor, and creativity to help you find new language and roles outside of the ones you were assigned. Essential for breaking cycles.

Somatic Work: Focuses on the body's wisdom to address the constant hum of fear and hypervigilance. We help you learn to shift out of the body's fight or flight response into grounded regulation.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy: We provide a safe, knowledgeable space for all parents navigating identity, gender, and sexual orientation within the family system.

Humanistic Psychology: A framework that affirms your inherent potential and worth (not earned through suffering), providing the foundation for self-acceptance.
